Dick Scklucki, a Downtown Theatre Manager for United Detroit Theatres. worked at the Rosedale in the 50s. He was always telling me about the great times at the Saturday morning kids shows there. lots of audience particpation and kid giveawys. Dick later manage the Brodway Capitol(Grand Circus) and several other UDT Theatres in the 60s, 70s & 80s. He was the man who trained me in theatre management.

I grew up in Detroit in the 1950s. On my birthday in June of 1953, my Mom took me to the Rosedale Theater on Woodward Avenue to see the movie, SHANE. It was a life changing experience. (I subsequently became a film director. ) The film was wonderful, and the Rosedale was, as I recall, quite a beautiful neighborhood theater. I would love to see a historical photo of the Rosedale as it was in the early '50s, before it was changed into a church.

We lived on Rosedale Ct. during the late 1930s. We went to the Rosedale Theater every Saturday. The price for a ticket was 10 cents.

I lived on Harmon, just around the corner from the Rosedale, from 1946-1953. On Saturdays (for 12 cents), we saw two movies, a Buster Crabbe-type serial, previews, and an hour of cartoons. At intermission there would be a pie-eating contest. The movies would change on Sunday, and the price was 14 cents. Adult tickets were a mind-boggling 44 cents.
